Our work is focussed around helping children and young people realise their right to participate in decisions that affect their lives.
Some of our recent work around children's and young people's rights includes:
-
One of our YNCB members sat on an interview panel to select the new Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People (NICCY).
-
We are currently working with NICCY to support a campaign to change legislation so that young people under 16 are included in proposals for anti-age discrimination law in the provision of goods, facilities and services.
-
We helped to organise an event at Belfast City Hall with children and young people to explore their views and experiences of enjoying their Rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Their views will be compiled into a Report for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
-
Between November 2014 and March 2015, we worked with Queens University Belfast and the Children's Rights Advisory Group to assess children’s views on public expenditure and inform the Committee on the Rights of the Child's upcoming general comment, as well as well as the Human Rights Council's upcoming discussion on investing in children.
