Commission us for participation support

Participation in NCB Northern Ireland

NCB ensures that children and young people’s views and experiences guide every aspect of our work, helping us to inform policy and practice in order to bring about lasting change for children and young people, families and communities.  We do this to fulfil our obligations for the promotion of the rights of all children and young people, recognising that young people are experts in their own lives and that their direct input into issues affecting them is critical in developing services which are fit for purpose.

We involve young people in our work in many different ways; though Young People’s Advisory Groups (YPAG’s), as Young Researchers, as Trustees, Young Recruiters and through project specific work e.g. Consultations, conferences and training events.

We provide both one-to-one support and larger workshops for organisations looking to build a culture of participation.

Participation Workshops 2018:

Seek, Listen to & Act: Developing Participation Skills with Young People,

This workshop will offer participants a greater understanding of the meaning of participation and help them to develop participation within their organisation’s current practices.

Mechanisms of Effective Participation with Children & Young People

This workshop provides an opportunity to explore different methods of involving young people in your organisation, Identify strengths and weaknesses of different approaches and reflect on your own practice and identify areas for improvement.

Evaluating Participation Methods

This workshop provides an opportunity to explore creative methods of evaluation with children and young people. Look at tools to map and plan the participation of children and young people and assist participants in taking a measure of their own participation within their organisations.

Young Researcher Training

We involve young people in our research and policy work, because we recognise that young people are experts on their lives, and through their direct input our work is even more effective.

Our Young Researcher Training will help young people themselves gather evidence about issues that are important to them.

The course covers:

  • What is research?

  • Look at different methods of research

  • How to choose the most suitable method

  • How to analyse information generated from research

  • How to present this information (reporting)

  • Ethical considerations when undertaking research

The training is a full day but can be broken down into smaller modules to be delivered to suit the needs of groups.

Participation training for young people

In addition to delivering participation support to organisations, we also offer a range of participation support to young people, to raise their capacity to engage with you and your organisation.

Contact us

To register, or for more information on how we can support your organisation with participation activities, please contact Gill Hassard, Senior Participation Officer: ghassard@ncb.org.uk  or 028 9087 5006.
